SGI Certified training focused on the student! Your success, is our success!
SGI Certified training focused on the student! Your success, is our success!
Once you hold a full, experienced driver’s license (no novice), you can begin your commercial driver training at any time. However, please note that you cannot complete any of the required knowledge or practical exams until you turn 18 years of age.
Yes. Though you already have developed skills operating Class 3 units, there are aspects of the MELT program that must be taught and competencies that must be passed. All 121.5 hours of training must be completed before testing at the SGI testing facility. If you already hold an Air Brake Endorsement, you will not be required to retest for the Air Brakes but you must complete all the required training of the air brake system.
This means that you have a restricted license to only operate automatic vehicles and it is at the discretion of the driving school on how much training time is needed. Shifting is a skill that can take time to develop. We would have our instructors assess your driving to determine how much time would be required to prepare you to test on a manual transmission.
Maybe. It is up to SGI on a case by case decision.
Since the implementation of MELT, we’ve received feedback from both students and employers regarding the length of the program. In 2020, we made the decision to move to one-on-one training in the truck, which allows us to focus on what really matters: hands-on experience.
While observation time is important, we believe you don’t need to watch another student perform driving maneuvers for 57 hours to gain the skills you need. You’re not credited for time spent in the bunk, and let’s face it—driver training is not a spectator sport!
Our program is designed to maximize your time in the driver’s seat while also providing excess time towards your required training hours. This ensures you're not just meeting the minimum—you’re gaining real-world experience and building confidence behind the wheel.
We wish we didn’t have to charge so much, but the truth is, quality training comes with a price. We focus on providing real-world, hands-on training, which means taking you off the twin-lane highways and onto the roads less traveled. Our goal isn’t just to teach you to pass a test; it's to prepare you to be a skilled, confident driver in any situation.
We don’t believe in training students to drive slower than the flow of traffic just to save on fuel—we believe in training you to drive safely and efficiently, the way you'll need to in real life.
At MTS, you get one-on-one training tailored to you. You’ll be in the driver’s seat the entire time—because that’s where the real learning happens. Some things in life can be skimped on, but your commercial driver training shouldn’t be one of them!
On our home page, there is information regarding funding options. We also offer financing. If you call Melissa she can explain it all to you and who knows, maybe you will have a good chat too!
Our course is broken up into two sessions. We offer a small classroom and this takes 5 days. The driver training is 11 days. These two sessions are booked on availability and preference of the student. We train Monday to Friday 8AM to 5PM. Closed weekends and holidays.
No, those are not our trucks. This is exactly why the MELT program exists. Schools that park trucks in hotel lots are often referred to as “parking lot trainers.” Some schools still operate under the radar using this method.
As a certified MELT school, we are required to provide our students with a proper classroom, washroom facilities, non-public backing areas, and dedicated training yards. We’ve invested heavily in ensuring our students receive the high-quality, comprehensive training they deserve.
We often get this request, and we're happy to clarify! Our base of operations is in North Battleford, and while we've hosted students from all over Saskatchewan, we start each day at our location here. North Battleford serves as a central hub for many communities, making it an ideal training base.
We provide a safe location to park your vehicle while you train, along with a lunchroom where you can take a break. If you're traveling from out of town, North Battleford offers great hotels and several Airbnb options for your stay.
Please note: Classroom group training offsite is available by special arrangement.
While we rarely require a retest due to our comprehensive training, we understand that test anxiety can happen. That’s why we include one retest for our students, should they need it, to ensure they feel confident and prepared.
As the premier truck school in the Battlefords, we’re known not just here, but in communities far and wide! Unlike other schools, we don’t rely on the test route as a learning tool. Instead, we take our students on an adventure, covering 2,200 to 2,500 kms per student to ensure they gain real-world, hands-on experience.
